London 2012 testing programme continues

The London 2012 test event programme, the London Prepares series, resumes in October with an exciting sporting line-up including Olympic qualifying tournaments, British Championships and World Cups from sports including Diving, Swimming and Track Cycling, plus the first Paralympic test event.

The first test events in the London Prepares series took place earlier this summer and included the London International Basketball Invitational at the Basketball Arena on the Olympic Park.
Following a successful summer of testing, the next round promises to bring the world’s best athletes to London. The Archery test event is the first to begin this autumn and uses the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground as its venue.
In the Olympic Park, the Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and Handball Arena will be used for the first time for competitive events including Goalball, the first Paralympic test event. Elsewhere in London, the multi-venue ExCeL is put to the test along with the North Greenwich Arena (known as the O2) which will host Artistic, Trampoline and Rhythmic Gymnastics.
To find out more about these events, including how to get tickets, visit the London Prepares series website.
Not only will the events offer world-class sport to thousands of spectators, they are vital in testing LOCOG’s operations in the lead up to the Games next year.
Paul Deighton, London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) Chief Executive, said: ‘After completing 18 very successful Olympic test events this summer, it is with great anticipation we start the next round of test events in the London Prepares series. We are looking forward to completing another first in the Olympic Park when we host competitive Olympic and Paralympic events in the Handball Arena and world class events in the Velodrome and Aquatics Centre for the first time.’
Esther Nicholls, UK Sport’s Head of Major Events, said: ‘UK Sport is thrilled to be supporting the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classic and 18th FINA Diving World Cup in the second wave of Olympic test events through our National Lottery funded events programme. These events are set to give more of our athletes a taste of what is to come in less than 12 months time at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
‘Following the great success of the first test events, where we saw some incredible performances in iconic venues across London, we are looking forward to hosting more world-class events on home soil.’
