School children and teachers are set to benefit from new London 2012 education resources launched this autumn.
Schools around the world using these resources are encouraged to email or write to the London 2012 International Education Team to tell them or share a photo highlighting how they have been using these new resources. The first 10 schools (one from each country) to contact London 2012 will receive a pack of London 2012 goodies.
The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) is working with the 205 National Olympic Committees, the 170 Paralympic Committees and partners including the British Council, the BBC and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office to ensure schools are aware of and using these resources in classroom activities, assemblies and local celebrations in the lead-up to the Games.
LOCOG Chair Seb Coe said: ‘We have always believed that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have the ability to capture the imagination of young people all over the world and to encourage them to choose sport. We are delighted to launch these new resources and to provide a new platform from which they can learn about and join in the London 2012 Games.’
The new set of resources is designed to help young people around the world learn about the London 2012 Games in their schools and communities.
The resources are available online now in English (Advanced level and Basic level), French and Spanish. They provide London 2012 Games information, activity ideas and images to encourage young people to learn about, discuss and take part in projects related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Topics include: the sports and venues of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the heritage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the UK, and an introduction and the story behind Wenlock and Mandeville – the London 2012 mascots.
