World record broken on the first day of the London Archery Classic

Oct,4 Tue 2011
Korea's Im Dong-Hyun broke his own 72-arrow world record on the first day of the London 2012 Archery test event at Lord's Cricket Ground.

More than 100 of the world's best archers are taking part in the London Archery Classic, a London 2012 test event and part of the London Prepares series.
Im scored 693 in the ranking round, exceeding his previous record by two points, during the event which takes places from 3-10 October.
After competing, Im said: 'I'm very happy. I did not expect to break the world record today, but I knew with three arrows remaining that it was possible. I wasn't nervous, I just tried to focus.'
The London Archery Classic is an officially recognised World Archery international tournament and will use the new scoring format (head-to-head matches with sets) which will be in place during the Archery events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Top British athletes are competing in the event including five-time Olympian Alison Williamson along with Naomi Folkard and Amy Oliver, who is chasing her first appearance at the Olympic Games. For the men, Simon Terry, Larry Godfrey and Alan Wills will represent Great Britain. They are the same three who represented Team GB at the Beijing Olympic Games.
GB archer Amy Oliver said of the event: 'The test event is an extremely important tournament for all of us (the GB Archery team) because not only is it an international competition, it is also an important exercise in testing out where we are at. We are all aware of how much hard work we need to put in over the winter as we aim to qualify and be part of the Games next year.'
The London 2012 Organising Committee is using the event to test key aspects of its operations including running the competition on a single competition range during the elimination rounds and the new scoring system which will debut at London 2012.
